The guide

How Huppla works

Short, calm and without the tech. Every question a heading, every answer a few sentences.

What does Huppla do?

Huppla helps you tidy up your photo roll, month by month. You look at each photo once and decide with a swipe: clear it out or keep it. That way you finish each month at 100% and free up space on your phone.

How do I clear out a photo or keep it?

Swipe the photo left to clear it out, or right to keep it. You can also just tap the buttons under the photo, that does exactly the same thing.

I swiped the wrong way by accident. Now what?

Tap the back arrow. It undoes your last decision, as often as you like within your session. Stay relaxed, nothing is lost.

The buttons on the photo

What does the heart do?

The heart makes a photo a favourite. It is the same heart as in your phone’s Photos app: tap it in Huppla and it also shows up in your favourites in Photos. Tip: tapping the photo twice quickly does the same thing.

What does the gem do?

It marks a photo as a gem: a photo you want to find back easily later, for example to print, share or put in a photo book. Your gems are collected in their own list in Huppla; tap the gem at the top of your home screen to view them.

What is the difference between the heart and the gem?

In short: the heart is a feeling (this makes me happy) and also appears in your favourites in Apple Photos. The gem is a plan (I want to find this back later) and stays in Huppla. A photo can of course be both.

Can I put my gems in Photos too?

Yes. Open your gems through Settings, Gems and tap "Save to a Photos album". Huppla then creates an album called "Huppla gems" in the Photos app. Your photos stay where they are, it is just a handy collection.

What does the share icon do?

It lets you send the photo straight on through WhatsApp, email or whatever you like. Handy when you come across a photo during tidying that someone else should see.

Can I view a photo larger first?

Yes. Tap the photo once and it fills the whole screen. Pinch with two fingers to zoom in on details. Tap Done and you continue where you were.

Your progress

What is the daily goal?

A friendly goal to tidy up a little every day. You choose the pace in settings: easy (100 photos), normal (200) or brisk (300). Reach your goal and you celebrate with confetti.

What is my streak?

Your streak counts how many days in a row you reach your daily goal. And importantly: one rest day in between is always fine, your streak simply continues. Only when you skip two days in a row does the count start over. So no stress.

What are milestones?

Little moments to celebrate along the way: your first session, 100 photos cleared, your first gigabyte of free space, your first full month. You find them on the home screen under Milestones.

What does that 100% on a month mean?

That you have looked at every photo of that month and made a decision about it. The month is then complete: fully tidied, done, be proud.

Does Huppla do videos too?

Yes. Videos sit right among your photos, with a film label and the duration on them. On the card they play without sound; tap the video for a large view with sound. Swiping works exactly the same.

What are duplicate photos?

Photos you have twice, like one you also got back through WhatsApp, and photos that are nearly the same, like those eight shots of the same sunset. You get them neatly in groups, so you keep the best one and clear out the rest in one go.

Safe and private

When does the storage space free up?

Only once the photos have left "Recently Deleted", so after 30 days. Want the space back sooner? Open the Photos app, go to "Recently Deleted" and choose "Delete All".

Are my photos stored on a server at Huppla?

No. Huppla works entirely on your own phone. Your photos never leave your device, unless you share one yourself.

Three locks on the door

1

Your swipe: you decide what can go.

2

The archive check: everything lined up once more before it really goes.

3

30 days to reconsider in "Recently Deleted". Even then you can still go back.
